Travel information

Brno can be reached in several ways. We recommend to use an airplane connection to Prague or Wien and then to continue to Brno by train or bus. A direct airplane connection to Brno is also posible but there are only few regular flights from London Stansted and Prague. Munich flights have been discontinued in March 2007.

Arriving to Brno by plane

Brno airport is located about 7 km from Brno. For transport to city centre you can use either a taxi or a bus.

  • Bus line No. 76 goes to the main railway station in the centre of Brno every 30 minutes from 4:35 AM to 23:35 PM. Tickets cost 13 Kc (see below).
  • Taxi should cost about 300 Kc.
See Airport Brno for details about travelling from the airport to the city centre.

Arriving to Brno from Prague

Brno can be reached from Prague by plane, coach or by a train.

By plane

You can fly from Prague, Ruzyne (PRG) to Brno, Turany (BRQ) (flight duration is 45 minutes). The service is provided by the Czech Airlines.

By coach

Czech Airlines and Student Agency operate direct coach lines between Prague, Ruzyne Airport and Brno.

Departures of Czech Airlines coaches from Prague Airport, Ruzyne: 9:30, 11:00, 12:45, 17:30, 19:15 (during weekends the coach at 9:30 is not operated). Return ticket cost 525 CZK (~18 EUR). Tickets can be bought via Czech Airlines (CSA) web-site or can be booked together with the airplane ticket (coaches are scheduled in CSA flight timetable). They leave directly from the airport but the luggage must be handled by the passengers. The travel time is approximately 3 hours. The arrival place in Brno is Grand Hotel Brno (the centre of the city/central railway station).

Departures of Student Agency coaches from Prague Airport (Ruzyne) (travel time 3 hours 30 minutes): 7:00, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, 17:30, 18:30, 19:30. Notice that buses from airport are usually full, because they use just a minivan with 8 seats for the first part of the journey (from the airport to Prague - Florenc coach station). Tickets are available in Student Agency office in departure hall of Terminal 2 (open Mo-Fr 6:00-20:00; Sa 6:00-20:00; Su 7:00-20:00). See www.student-agency.cz for details (in Czech only). The arrival place in Brno is Grand Hotel Brno (the centre of the city and central railway station). Return ticket costs 440 CZK (~16 EUR).

The City of Brno and its surroundings are serviced by an integrated public transport system with unified travel tickets. The serviced area is divided into several tariff zones. The zones for the area of the City of Brno are 100 and 101.

All tickets are transfer, except the 10 minutes ticket - this is valid only in the vehicle in which it was signed. The ticket must be signed immediately after boarding a vehicle.
